Tool for investment project optimization and operation optimization with focus on efficient energy utilization
The determination of the appropriate capacity and the sizing of an appropriate heat recovery system, in accordance with the adopted heat utilization strategy (i.e., only electricity production or combined heat and power if feasible), represent crucial decisions on each individual incineration plant in its early project stage.
For this purpose, an optimization tool (involving stochastic programming methods) was developed. It is based on a proven techno-economic model describing several technological configurations. The objective is to find the optimal values of the key parameters of the considered technology and evaluate the project's feasibility related to its optimum design. The plant economy is tested according to the future development of energy prices, waste production, etc.
The development of these software was funded by Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under project No. TE02000236 “Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Competence Centre”.
