Experimental unit KOAX

Unit specification
It is a compact device with heat recovery, used for thermal or catalytic destruction of CO, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other dangerous pollutants contained in waste gas.
It consists of two main apparatus – a cylindrical combustion chamber and a heat exchanger, which form together a compact unit. Furthermore, the device can be extended by a catalyst part that allows the catalytic oxidation of pollutants. The main feature of this device is its compactness due to the integration of the aforementioned apparatus into one unit.
Preheating of processed materials ensures special exchanger, which consists of concentric cylindrical surfaces. Hot working substance (flue gas) and cold working fluid (polluted air mass) flow in the countercurrent regime along these surfaces. Due to suitably positioned partitions between cylindrical surfaces the substance is driven along a helical trajectory. The actual thermal (catalytic) oxidation of pollutants in the waste gas takes place in a cylindrical combustion chamber, or in the catalyst layer located inside the chamber.
The experimental unit is equipped with the control system, which enables the control of operating conditions, the setup of various technological parameters and the measurement of monitored quantities. Furthermore, the unit is equipped with air and flue gas blowers and the device for precise feeding of liquid chemicals to form exhaust gas, or feeding of gaseous pollutants.
To evaluate the efficiency of the process it is possible to connect various flue gas analysers for the measurement of concentrations of CO, NOx, O2, VOC, etc.
The unit is used for testing of different types of catalysts and waste gas. Based on the experimental data it is possible to model the catalytic reaction course and then to design a reactor for real industrial applications.
