Design of Equipment

Our focus

The group is focused on design and evaluation of process equipment in terms of strength and lifetime according to legislation and standards. We are developing procedures for automatising commonly used methods from the standards to increase their application efficiency. We are also focused on application of finite element method (FEM) in equipment evaluation procedures, which may provide more accurate results and is applicable within some of the standards.

The above mentioned areas of interest are intertwined with key activities of our group;

  • research and development
  • commercial activities
  • theses

Our strategy

  • design solutions tailored to requirements of our customers, with regards to loads and environmental conditions, utilising applicable standards for meeting safety requirements
  • use of appropriate numerical models, analyses and result evaluation in order to verify plausible damage cause hypothesis and subsequent proposal of design modifications for mitigation of further damage under operation conditions

Involvement of students

In the process of student preparation for employment, we are using our experience from cooperation with industrial partners as well as feedback of former students who have been working in our area of interest for some time. The most frequent requests from industrial partners include root cause analyses of damaged equipment and consequent proposals of remedy measures as well as effective application of standards. Topics of student theses are naturally connected to these activities.
